Olivia Germino
I’m Olivia (she/her), a book designer with a background in screenwriting and a master’s degree in book publishing from Portland State University, where I worked with Ooligan Press. I focus on cover and interior design, shaping the mood and atmosphere of books—especially fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and romance, with a love for queer and women-centered stories. When I’m not designing, I’m usually reading or writing fanfiction and spending time in fan communities that keep me grounded in storytelling.
Book Production passions
Cover Design
I have three years of experience in cover design, with a particular love for creating visually compelling covers for genre fiction, while also bringing thoughtful sensitivity to memoir. My training includes coursework in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign, as well as Book Design Software, Typography, and Advanced Book Design through the Book Publishing master’s program at Portland State University. As a member of Ooligan Press, I’ve contributed to numerous collaborative cover projects—twice advancing to the final round—experiences that strengthened both my design instincts and my appreciation for the balance between creativity and market awareness. I’m drawn to cover design because it’s where storytelling and visual aesthetic meet, inviting readers into book’s world before they’ve read a single page.
Layout Design
I have two years of experience in book interior design and enjoy crafting layouts across a range of genres. My training includes extensive work in Adobe InDesign, along with Book Design Software, Typography, and Advanced Book Design courses through the master’s program in Book Publishing at Portland State University, where I developed numerous conceptual interior designs. I’m especially drawn to interiors and typography for their power to immerse readers, shaping the rhythm, atmosphere, and visual identity that bring a book’s world to life.
Editorial
My editorial experience is rooted in a strong passion for developmental editing and story structure. I began honing these skills as a screenwriting undergraduate, where I provided developmental feedback on classmates’ scripts and built a foundation in narrative craft. As part of Ooligan Press, I’ve contributed to proofreads and edited marketing materials for multiple titles, gaining hands-on experience across stages of the publishing process. While in the Book Publishing program at Portland State University, I further strengthened my approach through Book Editing and Developmental Editing coursework. I’m drawn to developmental work because it allows me to collaborate closely with writers, shaping ideas and structure to help each manuscript become its strongest, most intentional version.
Marketing
I have two years of hands-on marketing experience with Ooligan Press, where I’ve helped craft blurb and review requests, as well as develop marketing plans for a range of titles. In the Book Publishing program at Portland State University, I further strengthened these skills through dedicated coursework in Book Marketing. I enjoy the strategic and creative balance of publishing marketing—finding the right language, audience, and approach to connect readers with books in meaningful ways.
Project Management
I gained project management experience at Ooligan Press while serving as project manager for The Neighborhood Dames by Laura Stanfill. In this role, I acted as the primary liaison between author and press, coordinated team workflows by delegating tasks and offering feedback, and ensured the project stayed on schedule to meet its publication timeline. I value project management as a collaborative process—bringing organization, clear communication, and creative teams together to carry a book from concept to completion.
